The NSW Branch of HERDSA has been launched in an online event bringing together members of the higher education community within and beyond NSW.

The one-hour event, held on Zoom, gave participants the chance to find out more about the Branch and its establishment, as well as meet new colleagues from different higher education institutions.

Speaking at the launch, Associate Professor Deb Clarke (from Charles Sturt University), the Vice-President of HERDSA and the initiator of the NSW Branch, commented that the launch was especially important during a pandemic that had left everyone searching for connection with others.

The event’s keynote speaker, Professor Chris Tisdell (from UNSW Sydney), similarly highlighted that the broader HERDSA community had been particularly important in giving him a “tribe” of colleagues over the years.

During the launch, participants were also asked to share their thoughts about the themes on which the Branch should focus, and the types of events that it should start to run. The responses, collected through a ‘chat waterfall’, will be used to start shaping plans from early 2022.
